Since 2000, Katie Winter Architecture has supported a diverse clientele in the renovation and expansion of educational and cultural institutions throughout New York City with a range of architectural and landscape design services.

Who We Are

Katie Winter Architecture’s (KWA) designers come from a variety of countries and back-grounds, bringing a rich breadth to our design vocabulary, and to our approach to programming and aesthetics.

Design + Build

With a background in a design–build approach, KWA considers both the opportunities and viability of construction projects within an institution’s budget through each step of the process.

Plan + Program

KWA believes in taking the time (even if it is short) to create a master plan; to understand the evolution of an institution, its community and its neighbors, and the vision it has for the future.

Research + Education

As part of the firm’s interest in education, KWA engages in the research and public discourse about trends in education.

Landscape + Sustainability

The dense urban fabric of New York City makes the relationship between architecture and landscape a central focus for our work. A project doesn’t need to have sprawling lawns for the landscape to matter; in fact, the relationship between interior spaces, exterior spaces and actually any built form matters more in the weave of the city. We always consider how to bring the outside space into the interiors; at the same time, when we design outdoor spaces or place a building or addition in the landscape, we are always thinking of shaping the space for form and function in the same terms that we use when creating interior spaces.
